Interesting. Apparently it turned out to be a meeting to discuss the building with County Commissioner’s, city council and public.
1. The county clerk wanted to clarify that no children lived in the apartments despite a letter claiming so. I guess those folks coming to the food bank borrowed ‘em? Kids enrolled at the school? A meeting attendee disputed the claim as he had employee(s) with children and helped them move. He also stated that evicting people mid-winter, although mild this year, was questionable and harsh. Against state law?
2. The question of what to do with the building now was discussed. Really?
Commissioner’s spent over a quarter of a million (tax) dollars to buy a building located on a prime real estate corner within city limits and had/has no plan? Except spend more money? A commissioner wants it torn down. Then what? Keep in mind, this is a building, a corner lot within city limits that is now “government” (we) owned. Real estate deals must follow state law that are specific to “government” (we) owned properties.
It is all going to cost us money.
Not to mention the income and tax loss to city residents/property owners.. Aaaand, will the county (we) be sued by the city (us)for owning a building that is alleged to be a failing, infested, biohazard within city limits? A lawsuit filed by the city (us) against the previous owner made no difference whatsoever. What is the diff?
3. Resident living conditions and the items left behind were also cited. Hmm, resident has no money for first, last, deposit, pet fee, electric service deposit, water service deposit, no car or transportation etc. You bought it and ordered me out in 30 days in the middle of winter. I am taking, can only take, what fits in a bag and leaving. See ya!
4. A claim that the county justice fund was overspent every year due to the many calls for service made from the building. Are they not logged and printed in the weekly newspaper? Must a missed them.
5. A council member stated he has spoken several times to a possible purchaser of the building/corner. Same person the county (we) has spoken with? Hmm, should be done at a public meeting? So the people paying for it all…
6. The landfill shop, landfill pit, employee facility is another recent example of the failure to plan. Built for 3 doors but only bought 2. Wind direction? Made sure to have all the doors facing in that direction. Utilities are going to cost us a ????
7. I guess when there is lotsa money, who cares when, where or how well it is spent.
Cuz we’ll just collect more.
