    County TidBits

I find it interesting that the folks who hate the Frederick’s building, strongly disliked the people just for living there, and apparently never lifted a finger to change the facility or living conditions are still justifying the actions taken by COUNTY officials.

The building is located within CITY limits. The city filed a lawsuit against the owner. Yet nothing changed. No one attended city P&Z meetings to voice concern, no one attended city council meetings to voice concern. No letters written.

Now, several months and deaths later, it appears commissioners are still looking for a way to justify spending over 269k.

What a fairground that money would have built!

May 26, 2026 Minutes…101 Grand Ave. Property (Frederick’s Building) – Discussions were held regarding the property and next steps. Commissioner Langseth is awaiting information from the Department of Environmental Quality and the Environmental Protection.

So if they can just find an agency who will deem the building a hazard w/o any chance of remediation, commissioners will tear it down. Which was always the plan anyway and when ya’ gots lotsa money.

Then there is the city council. Now pursuing a fenced, cement pickleball and basketball court. Cuz’ a council member thinks it is a good idea. The location would be across from the DK Motel. Where our 305k bathroom, 250k car charger, science center (w/wifi we also pay for) are located.

A recent online post expressed a wish for a dog park, another post expressed an area to picnic and meet folks. Of course an area like this would attract people. The people already paying for it (Arco) could use and enjoy it.

The logic/by the numbers. How many people/kids would use the fenced cement court (in 90*) vs grassy dog park, covered picnic tables, splash pad, Farmers Market? A visitor, passing through, stops to play pickleball or let the dog out, picnic, shop, take pictures(Number Hill), walk? It would be similar to rest areas. In fact, let’s work with ITD and get it listed as a rest area.

Have an area set aside for “camp host” to park their RV and monitor the park. Like our employee at the airport. Butt – that is not what the city council, working for YOU, are gonna spend YOUR money on.
